A Short History
The Lindens was founded by Lynne Oldfield in 1985. With funds from private donations, Lynne was able to secure the building in the centre of Stroud and opened an Early Years setting where she remained as kindergarten teacher for 25 years. The Gabriel Education Trust was established as the legal body that owns and looks after the building and works closely with the educational provision.
The setting was originally called The Lindens Family Centre and offered a kindergarten, parent and child group, parenting courses and childbirth classes. It has been a thriving setting for many years supporting the healthy development of children and providing support and community for families in the area.
Lynne Oldfield's book Free to Learn, 2nd Edition is a good introduction for parents and others interested to learn more about Steiner Early Years education and child development.
The building underwent significant redevelopment during 2020 and is now run by The Lindens Early Years CIC. As a Community Interest Company we are committed to providing the best early years education, and are working towards a rebirth of The Lindens.
Currently, we provide a Kindergarten for children aged 3-6, a Little Kindergarten for children aged 2 1/2-4, and Parent and Child groups for families with children aged 0-3.
